Abraham Lincoln Memorial, Temple Engraving
"In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the union. The memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever."
The Lincoln Memorials stands in our nation's capital as one of the uniquely sacred places in the American landscape. Many Americans make the pilgrimage here to honor the sacrifices that the soldiers of the civil war made, to read the Gettysburg Address and the second inaugural of Lincoln. Many stand before the temple at the very spot that Martin Luther King Jr delivered the "I have a dream" speech. It is a chilling and special American experience.
The memorial took 8 years to build, from 1914 to 1922 and is over 27,000 square feet in size. The statue of Lincoln is over 19 feet tall.
This photograph taken from inside the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC shows the 19th century savior of the union, looking out across the national mall towards the Washington Monument and the US Capital building. Engraved above the statue lies the inscription in marble, that celebrates Lincoln as the savior of the union.
It is available in color, sepia tone as well as black and white and and in several frame variations.
